Privacy
We collect as little as we can: your email address if you subscribe, and nothing that identifies you otherwise.
When you read
You can read every article without an account, and we don't set tracking cookies of our own. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which handles each request and keeps routine logs (such as IP addresses) to run and protect the service. Fonts, search and images are served from our own site, and the share buttons are plain links, so no other company sees what you read here unless you click through to it.
To count readers, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It records which pages are visited, the referring site, and the broad type of browser, device and country, without cookies, without fingerprinting and without following you across other sites. We see only totals, never individual visitors. Cloudflare explains it in its Web Analytics overview.
Your browser stores two small things for your convenience only: whether you chose the light or dark theme, and your answers to any quiz or poll, so the results show again if you come back. They stay in your browser and you can clear them at any time.
Quizzes and polls
When you answer a quiz or poll, we add your choices to that article's totals. To stop one browser being counted twice, we keep a one-way code made from your IP address, your browser and the article, mixed with a secret. We don't store your IP address or anything else that identifies you, and the totals can't be traced back to you.
The newsletter
If you subscribe, we send your email address to Beehiiv, the service that sends the newsletter, along with the page you signed up on and whether you ticked the optional CredentialCraft box. We use your address only to send the newsletter. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. Beehiiv's handling of your data is set out in its privacy policy.
If you tick the CredentialCraft box, we also pass your address to CredentialCraft, the course-design studio run by our founder, so it can send you occasional updates. You can unsubscribe from those separately. We never sell or rent email addresses.
Advertising and cookies
Some pages carry advertising (never reviews or comparisons). Ads booked directly with us are images served from our own site; clicking one takes you to the advertiser, whose own privacy policy then applies.
Spaces with no direct booking may be filled by Google AdSense. When they are, Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see them and measure them, and may use information about your visits here and to other sites to show ads based on your interests. Visitors in the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland are asked for consent first and can change their choice at any time. You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and turn personalised ads off in Google's ad settings.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link at the foot of any issue.
- Clear this site's stored data in your browser's settings.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser, or use Google's ad settings to stop personalised ads.
- Ask what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing [email protected].
Children
The Learning Curve is written for adults who build courses. It isn't aimed at children.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we'll update this page and the date at the top. How we're funded, including advertising and affiliate links, is on our disclosure page.
